Step 1

Take the Measurements

Carefully measure the area where you need to install the countertops. Take precise measurements and cut off the countertops of the required shapes and sizes. Then mark all the spots for installing sinks and faucets.

Step 2

Check the Countertop Fitting

Put the countertop into the desired position on the installation area to check the fit. Make sure that there are no gaps between the walls and the countertop that are more than ⅛”. If there are large gaps then you need to reduce it.

Step 3

Scribing the Countertop

Take the gap between the wall and the countertop that is of the largest width. Then using this width, offset your pencil from the wall and scribe along the countertop. Taking the support of the wall, run your pencil to mark the countertop with the wall’s contour.

Step 4

Cut Along the Scribe Line

Remove the countertop from the installation area and block it up. Then, using a jigsaw, cut along the scribe line on the countertop. Then recheck the fitting of the countertop.

Step 5

Screw Countertop to Cabinets

Insert screws through the cabinet framing into the underside of the countertop to fix the countertop in place. Always ensure that the length of screw is appropriate and won’t come through the surface. Screw all along the entire length of the countertop.

Step 6

Caulking

Put on an even bead of caulking along the joint between the wall and countertop. Use a mildew resistant kitchen and bath caulking to make your countertop installation last longer.
